YMCA's Institute Healthy Balance
Ann Glora is the creator of the new YMCA program – Healthy Balance. After completing the Nutrition for Professionals course, Ann contacted Dr. Pentz and asked for her help in developing a group program that would incorporate lifestyle changes. Together they developed Healthy Balance.
Provided with an outline of the course, Kelley Rice, vice president of external affairs of the Greter Boston Association, commissioned a six-week pilot study. Results revealed that all participants made healthy lifestyle changes; all participants indicated that they were provided with the tools necessary to continue to make healthy lifestyle changes; and all participants indicated that they would continue to make healthy lifestyle changes (see Pilot for results). Three nonmembers become members of the facility after the program, along with two family members, for a total of five new memberships. See Pilot for further details.
Hyde
Park, MA YMCA
Ann Glora is the Nutrition Manager director
at the Hyde Park, MA YMCA.
"Taking the Nutrition Specialist course was a very good decision"
states Ann. "Not only did I get reasonably priced CEC’s for all
of my certifications but I found a terrific program to take back to my facility".
"With Dr. Jane’s guidance, we took the Nutrition Specialist principles
and applied them to a group setting. Entitled Healthy Balance, this is now
a successful and profitable part of our programming".
West
Roxbury , MA YMCA
Eileen Kelly is the program coordinator at
the West Roxbury YMCA. Healthy Balance has been extremely successful for the
West Roxbury YMCA. "At least two new members join the YMCA each time
I run the program", indicates Eileen. "Healthy Balance is also an
easy program to implement because all sessions are “scripted’
in easy to follow detailed steps. The program also provides participant handouts
– so preparation time is minimal. Participants love the non-intimidating
atmosphere and the lifestyle changing process".
Rye,
NY YMCA
Charles Clute,
Health & Fitness Director of the Rye, NY YMCA and Fitness Instructor Kate
Ward, have created a 12-week Nutrition and
Fitness program for their members. "I
took Dr. Jane’s course and was excited to learn of the YMCA program
utilizing Nutrition Manager Consultants", says Charlie. "We began
our program January 24 and by mid April we had increased our income by almost
$10,000. Participants in the program are making lifestyle changes and seeing
results. Testimonials from members indicate that the program exceeds their
expectations and all have made significant lifestyle changes. Dietitian support
has been key in our providing such a successful program".
Port
Orange, FL YMCA
Pam Giese states: "Healthy
Balance was introduced to our YMCA in February of 2005. As we now complete
the follow up evaluations, even I am amazed at the results that the participants
are reporting and at the changes they have been able to implement, seamlessly
into their lifestyles. Among the reported results in our first group are positive
energy changes, craving reductions, more organized, productive home and business
lives and a better understanding of how to grocery shop, prepare meals, and
eat on a schedule that minimizes hunger and therefore allows for more thoughtful
eating. One family is requesting enough of the software to incorporate the
entire family in the Nutrition Manager computer program.
The Licensed Group Instructor Program is allowing me to generate additional
income, to reinforce the knowledge that I acquired at the Nutrition Manager
Certification by teaching it, and most importantly, to reach people who are
ready to make lifestyle changes, but need some guidance and coaching on the
process. It is a perfect fit for my business and a natural progression for
all Trainers and Nutrition Managers entering the “life-coaching”
or health and wellness industry."
