A Curriculum Based Nutrition and Exercise Program
Childhood obesity rates have reached epidemic proportions and nothing seems to be working. Even with all the latest diets and the increase in new diet foods, obesity is still on the rise.
So, why is “Healthy Kids and Families” different? Healthy Kids and Families is a curriculum based program for elementary aged children. The program is also unique in that it teaches fundamentals of both healthy eating and exercise. Qualified instructors are trained by Lifestyle Management Associates to impart critical health information through a curriculum using exciting games, fun physical activities, children’s books (Galaxy of Healthland, Horatio’s Magical Journeys) and hands-on learning projects. Kids learn and exercise while having fun.

Kindergarten through Second Grade
Important nutrition concepts are introduced in kindergarten, first grade and second grade through a series of children's books. Each book centers on teaching children basic nutrition and exercise principles in preparation for materials presented in grades three and four. Children learn through exciting stories which center on a hero called Super Duper Action Hero (Sudah). Sudah lives far, far away in the Galaxy of Healthland. He travels to all the planets in Healthland and teaches the people of Healthland how to stay healthy. Titles include: The Galaxy of Healthland - The Beginning; The Galaxy of Healthland - The Planet Active; The Galaxy of Healthland - The Planet Fat, and other titles.
Grades Three and Four
Grades three and four focus on teaching children how to develop a healthy eating plan and exercise plan through 5 stages of proficiency and progression. Each stage has both a physical activity goal and a nutritional goal. There is no designated time allotment for completion of each stage. Instructors take the children through each phase of the program at the children’s own pace – using the curriculum once, twice or three times a week. Each stage contains detailed lesson plans (learning objectives, materials, lesson plan, take home project, and hints for the instructor).
Several stages center on a second series of books. Horatio's Magical Journeys is a series of books oriented towards teaching children (and adults) why they have to eat healthy. Horatio learns how food becomes energy through exciting journeys with his trusted friend, Super Duper Action Hero.

In "Horatio's Magical Journeys #1 - Horatio's New Book," Horatio doesn't understand why he needs to eat his fruits and veggies. Why can't he just play and eat his favorite snack foods? Horatio's mom gives him a book all about how the body uses food to make energy. When Horatio begins to read his "New Book", he quickly learns that this new book is much more than just a book. It has magical powers that will change his life forever.

In "Horatio's Magical Journeys #2 - The Secret" Horatio learns how the body converts food into energy while exploring the inside of a human cell. He also learns the secret behind his new magical book. Where did Horatio's mom get this magical book? Learn what great adventures await Horatio in "The Secret".
Grades Five and Six
Grades 5 and 6 focus on having the children (using software developed for the program) analyze their eating plan and develop a strategy to improve their eating plan. Flexibility is built into the curriculum to allow teachers to reduce or expand the program with “review” lessons.
