Nutrition Specialist Certification Commission

The Nutrition Specialist Certification Commission (NSCC) is the governing body of the Nutrition Specialist Certification program. The NSCC establishes the policies and manages the business, affairs, and operation of the Nutrition Specialist Certification program. The NSCC may adopt such rules and regulations for the conduct of its business and it shall deem advisable, and may, in the execution of such powers grant delegates certain of its authority, responsibility and day-to-day operational duties to the LMA-BOC. The LMA-BOC serves independently to uphold the stringent standards, guidelines, and policy created by the NSCC regarding maintaining and obtaining the Nutrition Specialist Certification credential. The LMA-BOC daily operations are conducted by the LMA-BOC Manager. The NSCC provides advisement on all matters pertaining to certification standards and policies, recertification standards and policies, approved continuing education policies and professional practice and disciplinary policies.

The NSCC is composed of three (3) elected certified Nutrition Specialists, one appointed Nutrition Specialist that also holds a degree as a Registered Dietitian, and one (1) appointed public member representing consumers of the services provided by Nutrition Specialists.

The Nutrition Specialist Certification Commission:

Is solely responsible to determine certification examination eligibility criteria to obtain the Nutrition Specialist credential
Is solely responsible to determine the recertification criteria to maintain the Nutrition Specialist credential
Participates in, and presides over hearings and appeals related to professional practice and disciplinary concerns of the Nutrition Specialist credential
Approve (by majority vote) all formal printed materials related to obtaining and maintaining the Nutrition Specialist credential (i.e., policy regulations, procedures, standards)
